During my senior year at River Valley High School, I had my heart set on attending Grand Valley State University. As the final months of my high school career approached, I became overwhelmed with the costs of continuing my education. That was when I was informed about the Pokagon Scholarship. After submitting my application, I did not expect to be one of the recipients of the generous award. In May, 2016, at my Senior Awards night, I was surprised when Mr. Krsul called my name and asked me to come up and receive the scholarship. I was fortunate to have received this award, but I was even more fortunate to have received the amount of $2,500 a year, for four years.
Even though my college career has just started, the Pokagon Fund has helped make the dream of attending college a reality. I have put the scholarship to good use during my first semester, where it was used for both tuition and book costs. Now that I am getting ready to start my winter semester, I am grateful that I will be able to use the scholarship once again. Without the overwhelming support of my family, friends, and community, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today. Although I am still undecided, I have begun the process of narrowing down all of the different possibilities of a future career choice. Grand Valley has already taught me many things, and with the help of the Pokagon Scholarship, I’m an even stronger and more determined individual.
